Hi! I'm Abi Strait
Hello! Welcome to my digital portfolio. I’m currently a junior at the Colorado School of Mines majoring in Mechanical Engineering. During the summer of 2025,
I completed a 12-week course through MIT IDSS and earned the Data Science and Machine Learning: Making Data-Driven Decisions certificate.
That experience sparked my interest in data science and machine learning, and I plan to pursue a Master’s in Data Science at Mines, either starting in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027.
While I’m building a strong foundation across mechanical engineering, my favorite areas include optimization algorithms, circuit design, hardware design, and programming.
Through coursework and hands-on projects at Mines, I have experience with Python, MATLAB, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Onshape, Arduino C, and LabVIEW.
Through my MIT IDSS certification, I’m also familiar with machine learning tools and libraries including NumPy, pandas, Matplotlib, and scikit-learn.
Additionally, I have experience (and I’m continuing to grow through certifications) with advanced statistics, SQL, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
Professionally, I interned with Englewood Utilities as a Mechanical Engineering Intern, where I worked on projects involving pump efficiency testing, piloting new systems, and energy consumption optimization.
Currently, I’m a TA for EBGN 321 (Engineering Economics) at Mines, a Building Manager for the Mines Student Recreation Center, and the primary scheduler for 75+ student workers each week.
I also teach piano lessons and tutor on weekends. These experiences have helped me develop strong leadership, collaboration, technical communication, and problem-solving skills.
In my free time, I like building my skill set in fun and interactive ways—such as creating AI agents for 2D games with Pygame, building this website from scratch, practicing piano, or playing chess with friends and family.
Being from Colorado, I also love balancing mental stimulation with physical activity by exploring the outdoors, working out, running, and biking. No matter what I’m doing, I see my accomplishments as steps along my career path.
Feel free to explore my portfolio to learn more about my projects, skills, and certifications!
At the top of my website, you’ll find six tabs in this order: Abi Strait, Resume, Projects, Certifications, Hobbies, and Skills & Tools. Some of these tabs have buttons to help you navigate to different sections of the page.
Feel free to click these buttons to skip to their corresponding sections. The Skills & Tools tab is a fun, interactive tab with a game-like UI and is my way of exploring how to create a creative UX.
The Abi Strait tab is this page, which provides a brief introduction of where I am currently in my career journey and an interactive timeline (feel free to click on the items for further descriptions).
The Resume tab contains my most up-to-date resume. Projects includes descriptions and images of some of my favorite work. Certifications highlights credentials I’ve earned. Hobbies covers interests outside of school and work.
Finally, Skills & Tools lists the technical skills and tools I’m proficient in.
